Hydrogen is found in various environments such as the Earth’s crust, volcanic gases, hydrothermal systems, and groundwater sources. As a clean energy source, natural hydrogen doesn’t produce harmful emissions, making it an attractive alternative to fossil fuels. Its extraction can be more cost-effective compared to methods like electrolysis, which require significant energy input.
Natural hydrogen can aid in the global transition towards renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It’s versatile, with applications in transportation, industry, and power generation, and its global availability can enhance energy security and sustainability.
White hydrogen holds great potential as a clean and sustainable energy source, leveraging natural reserves to drive decarbonization and support the global transition to renewable energy.
Grey Hydrogen: Produced from natural gas or methane using steam methane reforming (SMR).This process emits significant amounts of carbon dioxide, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, making it the least environmentally friendly form of hydrogen production.
Blue Hydrogen: Also produced from natural gas but with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to trap most of the CO₂ emissions. While carbon capture and storage (CCS) reduces emissions, it’s not 100% effective, meaning some CO₂ still escapes into the atmosphere.
Green Hydrogen: Made by electrolyzing water using renewable energy sources (like wind, solar, or hydro power) to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. Electrolysis is currently more expensive than other methods, making green hydrogen less economically viable without subsidies or technological advancements.
